Life at Lagori: Going full throttle!

Let's get real: launching Lagori has been a wild ride. Two months in, and it feels like we've packed a year's worth of experiences into this whirlwind. Forget the "9-to-5" routine – at Lagori, every day is a full-throttle adventure.

A driving purpose

From navigating guidelines and laws and keeping the paperwork in place; to pitching to corporations and NGOs, content scheduling, outreach and crunching numbers; the backend of running a non-profit is intense. But here's the secret: the late nights and long drives are fueled by something far greater than just ticking boxes and punching in hours. We're driven by a cause that tugs at our heartstrings. It's about seeing the impact firsthand – building relationships with the children, knowing our work is making a real difference in their lives. Our mission is what fuels us to deliver more, go above and beyond and push our limits and explore new competencies to get the job done.

A Crash Course on… well everything

Through Lagori, we're learning skills we never anticipated – we’re pushing our limits and trying new things- It’s an invigorating rush to be constantly on the go and getting things done- things you never realized you were capable of doing.

Along the way, we’ve learnt how to:

• Build a website

• Set up a payment gateway

• Manage incoming donations and outgoing expenses

• Write a CSR project proposal

• Set up a current account for a trust

•  Pitch to a corporate

• Write job appointment letters

• Create a content calendar

• Write a blog post :))

• Locate and contact relevant ngos and organizations

• Source materials and supplies

• Network and build up a roster of connections

• Draft a newsletter

• Manage teams and hold daily meetings

• Create a ppt in an Uber on the way to a pitch (a true form of art)

• Draft resolutions and approvals (an excruciating task)

• Ideating and executing social media strategies

Each of these tasks has contributed to our growth and understanding of what it takes to run a successful nonprofit. Whether it’s the creativity involved in building a website or the attention to detail needed to manage finances, every experience has been invaluable.

My point is, we’ve not only grown as professionals but also as individuals committed to making a difference. It’s this blend of personal fulfillment and professional development that makes our journey with Lagori so unique and rewarding.

It’s all about building relationships

But the real magic happens when we're face-to-face with the children. Recently, we hosted an art therapy workshop at Aasara Suraksha girls shelter in Neral, where we showed them how to free their minds and simply let creativity flow through art, providing them with all the necessary art supplies- paints, crayons, markers, the works.

Not only were we igniting creativity, but we provided them with the means for continuity with the supplies. What was truly heartwarming was when we visited them the next time, they came running to us with their drawing books to show us all the different artworks they had been working on. The excitement in their eyes to show me what they made was a reward unlike any other and it warmed my heart.

It wasn't just about the art itself; it was about the connection we built- that's the essence of Lagori. We're not only about large-scale projects; It's about building relationships – with the children, with the organizations we work alongside – that fill our hearts with purpose.

The power of collaboration

We don’t subscribe to rigid job descriptions- we value your unique skill set and want to empower you to use it in ways that contribute to Lagori's mission and bring you joy.  Sure, we have core responsibilities, but we also encourage stepping outside your comfort zone and exploring what ignites your passion within the realm of our mission. 

The last thing we do is work in silos. It’s all about collaboration! Our finance wizz could totally brainstorm project ideas with the outreach team. This way, not only do we leverage each other's strengths, but we learn from each other’s perspectives.
